Makeup this. Eyebrows that. "On Fleek," "On Point," on top of our list. Beginnning in 2014, continuing through 2015, and not slowing down in 2016, eyebrows have been the talk of the town. Whether they are naturally brown or blonde, bushy or thin, everyone has been trying to get their eyebrows to match this trend.

Eyebrows can easily get overlooked. They're two hairy lines on your face. Almost everyone has them. And we've all seen the pictures of celebrities with eyebrows photoshopped off, (yikes!). But the point is, not everyone can pull these off...or can they?
Before we get into all of that, let's remember that eyebrows have come a long way throughout history and have had styles that even go back to ancient Egypt. The women in ancient Egypt had dark eyebrows with a high arch. They often defined them by going over them with dark black powder made from minerals. The Middle Ages were an important time for the eyebrows. Queen Elizabeth had thin, strawberry blonde eyebrows. This inspired many women to dye their brows darker red shades. Things changed in the Victorian Era. Women who wore makeup were considered to be prostitutes. So, many women left their eyebrows untouched with their natural bushiness. The 1930's and 1940's ideals of brows came from movie stars and icons, including the thin lines of Jean Harlow and the large arches of Lauren Bacall.
The 1950's set the scene for the next forty years or so. Stars like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe had a dark, thick set of eyebrows. They often penciled them in to enhance their shape and thickness. This idea continued through the 80's. However, times sure did change in the 1990's. Drew Barrymore and other stars of this time, had brows plucked into a thin line, often darker, but thinner than ever. (Why did we ever think this was cool?!)
Luckily, things have recently changed. Brows are big and bold. Brows are dark and thick. But why? I would attribute this to models, such as Cara Delevingne (pictured above) and Lily Collins. They paved the way to these bushy beauties, and now everyone is into it!
How is the look achieved? 2 words. Brow kit. Maybe in the 50's a dark pencil would cut it. But now, it takes a little more effort. There are pencils, markers, brushes, gels, etc. Find what works best for you and your color. MAC has some awesome brow essentials! Make your own kit with different tools or order one to try here from Ulta.

My opinion? Do what looks and feels best for your face and style. Personally, I'm totally giving in to this trend. I think thicker brows make you look younger and maybe even bolder. But, I do so within reason. My brows are naturally pretty thin and blonde, so I can't get too wild with them, or else I wouldn't feel like myself. But you can go as far as you'd like. Smashbox, for blonde/lighter hair. I would suggest matching one very closely with your eyebrow color, and sampling it before buying it. Plus, you may prefer powder over pencils, or shadow over gel. It all depends on personal preference! So, I suggest trying it out and seeing what works for you! Have fun with it! It's so on trend, it's hard to mess up!
